Rideshare on your Ps?

You’re the resourceful type and you’re interested in joining a ridesharing company in Australia while you’re on your P’s.

In this article, we look at the licence requirements for ridesharing in Australia and whether you can earn money driving on your Ps.

Uber & Uber Eats

You can’t drive for Uber or Uber Eats on your P’s (as a P1 or P2 licence holder). Their minimum requirements state:

You can drive with Uber even if you don’t own a car. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Have access to a vehicle that meets Uber’s vehicle requirements
  • Hold a valid full driver’s licence in your state or territory
  • Have held a full driver’s licence in any Australian state or territory for at least 12 months (in Victoria you require a full Australian or New Zealand driver’s licence for a minimum of 6 months)
  • Provide all the necessary documents required in your state or territory
  • Be listed as an insured driver for the vehicle you plan to drive

 

Ola

You can’t drive for Ola on your P’s (as a P1 or P2 licence holder). Their minimum requirements are for you to have a full driver’s licence that is no less than 6 months old.

 

DiDi

You can’t drive for DiDi on your P’s (as a P1 or P2 licence holder). Their minimum requirements are for you to have a full driver’s licence that is no less than 6 months old. As they state, you need to:

  • Have a smartphone, mobile number and email address
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or otherwise have the right to work in Australia
  • Have held an unrestricted Australian driver licence for at least 6 months
  • Have an ABN and be GST-registered
  • Hold a current Driver Accreditation
  • Be listed as the insured driver on the insurance

 

Shebah

You can’t drive for Shebah on your P’s (as a P1 or P2 licence holder). Their minimum requirements are for you to have a full driver’s licence that is no less than 12 months old. As they state, to be a driver:

  • You’re at least 21 years old.
  • You have an iOS or Android phone.
  • You can comfortably and confidently speak English.
  • You agree to follow our vulnerable passenger guidelines.
  • You’ve held an unrestricted Australian driver’s licence for at least 12 months.
  • You have access to a car in excellent condition, with a minimum of four doors.
  • You have an ABN and are registered for GST.

 

GoCatch

You can’t drive for GoCatch on your P’s (as a P1 or P2 licence holder). Their minimum requirements are for you to have a full driver’s licence that is no less than 12 months old.

 

Summary

You can’t drive for rideshare companies on your P1 or P2 licence in Australia but that doesn’t rule out driving for these companies when you’ve got your full licence and 6-12 months of experience.
